I love your kitties, so much.
And to answer your question, Melvin has had troubles cleaning himself since we got him. He doesn't seem to spend any time cleaning his fur like most cats and ends up getting matted and really stinky. Also, Himalayans have a very hard time with oil build up and dirt collection due to their fur being so fine and fluffy, so most Himmies get bathed once a week, anyways.
I also do it to cut down on the hairballs that Melvin has been having quite the problem with.
For the most part, Melvin has a weekly regimen as well as a daily regimen.
We bathe, brush and cut Melvin weekly. This means bath, all the grooming and fluffing, and trimming any hairs on his backside that may get poopies stuck to them as well as trimming his toe furs to keep them from matting. He also gets a pawdicure right after his bath.
Daily we brush and fluff, rub a dry shampoo to keep the oil and stinky off, and clean around his eyes with Angel Eyes.
I swear, he takes longer to get ready in the morning than I do!
Oh man, if Zippy and Sadie did dat our mom would haf a heart attack! Dey look like dey really love each other...
